With 400 Budenny mares and 180 Don mares worldwide, the Golden Horses of Russia are in dire straights.
So how do we breed for more Budennies when there are so few of them, especially in the United States? Budenny and Don horses can be crossed to solid-colored, non-gray Thoroughbreds and Arabians. You'll see a "blood purity" fraction mentioned. This indicates the amount of tribal, or native blood compared to Thoroughbred or Arabian blood. 5/16-3/4 = Budenny horse with strong amounts of native blood; 13/16 = a high-blood Budenny; 7/8+ = not tribal (aka not enough native blood; can be crossed back to Don or Budennies create further generations of Budennies). Keep these in mind when considering the status of your resulting foal.
- Don or Budenny + Budenny = Higher % Tribal Blood Budenny --> Pureblood. Best cross for existing high-blood Budenny mares in North America
- Don + Arabian = Arab-Don --> Acceptable Breeding Stock, especially mares
- Budenny + Thoroughbred = High-Blood Budenny --> Good Breeding Stock. Best cross for new breeders to start their program
- Budenny + Arabian = Arab-Budenny --> Acceptable Breeding Stock, especially mares
- Budenny or Don + Any Other Breed = part-bred Budenny or Don --> Great Ambassadors!

It is available to solid-colored, non-gray Budenny, Thoroughbred, and Arabian mares only. We are aiming to fill an order of no less than 20 to 26 doses of frozen semen by March 2020; estimated shipment date is the second week of March.
